Sunshine city status achievable: Mahachi

Herald Reporter
The restoration of Harare’s Sunshine City status by 2025 is achievable town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi has said. In an interview at the city’s social sports festival held in Harare at the weekend, Dr Mahachi said restoration of the Sunshine City status for Harare required the efforts of councillors, ground work staff and proper management.

“By stepping away from our offices regularly to participate in social sport, we intend to devise solutions to organisational problems and develop new creative ideas in the process,” said Dr Mahachi.

“We want to grow this social enterprise by harnessing all the resources at our disposal such as the many sports facilities that are dotted around our administrative districts. It is our vision to take social sports outside the boundaries of our establishment and promote the participation of residents and stakeholders and even other local authorities in our social sports.

“We have to work as a team. In the next five years we intend to improve service delivery and create a high performance team.’’
The festival saw councillors playing various sports with council management, soccer legends playing against a ZBC select team and the refuse collection department playing against the social amenities department. Some of the soccer legends attendance were Stanford Mtizwa, Ronald Sibanda, Norman Mapeza and Misheck Chidzambwa.
