WARRIORS defender Emmanuel Jalai says his move to South African Premiership side Durban City has exceeded his expectations.
The Zimbabwe international quickly settled into life at the club and is already toasting success in his first season. Jalai has emerged as a key figure in Durban City’s defence, helping the club secure silverware.
He said the transition had been smoother than anticipated, thanks to the support he received from teammates, coaches and club management.
“So far, everything has gone well. The club welcomed me warmly from the first day and that made it easier for me to settle,” said Jalai.
“I came here hoping to grow as a player and help the team achieve its objectives.
“Looking back at the season, I can say it has exceeded my expectations.”
The 26-year-old has become one of a growing number of Zimbabwean players making an impact in South Africa, a development that continues to underline the quality of talent emerging from the local game.
Jalai said the demands of South African football have pushed him to improve several aspects of his game.
“The competition is very high and every match is challenging.
“It forces you to improve every day because there are no easy games,” he said.
“I have learnt a lot tactically and physically. Playing against quality players every week helps you become better.”
Jalai believes the success of Zimbabwean players abroad should inspire the next generation to remain committed to their dreams.
“There is a lot of talent back home. My advice to young players is to keep working hard, remain disciplined and be patient because opportunities can come at any time,” he said.
The defender also credited Zimbabwean football for laying the foundation for his career, saying his development in the domestic league prepared him for the challenges of playing abroad.
Jalai is determined to continue improving while contributing to both club and country.
“I am proud to represent Zimbabwe wherever I play. My goal is to keep improving, helping my club succeed and making sure I am ready whenever the national team calls.
“I believe the best is still to come for me,” said Jalai.
