Ngezi Platinum Stars midfielder Marvelous Mukumba says the FIFA transfer ban could prove a blessing in disguise for the young players at the club.
He says the senior players have a crucial role to play in helping the club navigate the ban.
The 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions are going through a challenging period after being hit with a transfer freeze.
This has forced the technical team to rely heavily on players from the club’s development structures and those who were on loan.
Mukumba, now in his sixth season with the Mhondoro-based side, believes the responsibility of senior players extends beyond the pitch.
“My responsibility, together with the other senior players, is to help these youngsters,” said Mukumba.
“Being a leader in the team means being a motivator, especially for a team like ours.
“We are a team with many young players and it is our responsibility as senior players to guide them.
“Knowing what is needed and what has to be done, I have to give them the information and motivation they need and make sure everyone is comfortable
“Once you settle into the environment, it becomes easier to perform, train well and represent the club,” he said.
Mukumba believes the transfer ban could unexpectedly benefit the club by creating opportunities for young players to prove themselves at the highest level.
“We do not know God’s plans. The ban could be a blessing in disguise for these youngsters.
“They now have an opportunity to showcase themselves at a top club like Ngezi Platinum Stars.
“I always tell them that whenever they get a chance, they must grab it with both hands.
“If they make a mistake, they should not panic because we are there to help them. I am here whenever they need assistance.
“I am their brother and teammate,” he said.
The midfielder also credited the club’s leadership for investing in youth development and loaning out players to gain valuable experience, a strategy that is now proving beneficial.
“The credit goes to the club and the development teams.
“We had players who were loaned out, and the game time they gained is now helping the team,” said Mukumba.
On the secret behind his own impressive consistency this season, Mukumba pointed to hard work, self-belief and a strong relationship with the technical team.
“For me, my performances come through hard work, believing in myself and learning from the technical team.
“Before every game, they give me instructions, and I use that knowledge to improve my performances,” he said.
Despite the challenges facing the club, Mukumba insists Ngezi’s ambitions remain unchanged, with the ultimate goal still being to reclaim the league title.
“Our target this season is to become champions again.”
