DARLINGTON Chikanyambidze is on fire and is now unstoppable.
The in-form Royal Harare golfer crushed the competition at Marondera Golf Club, winning the inaugural Mashonaland East Amateur Championship by a massive 10 shots to jump to the top of the Zimbabwe Golf Association Order of Merit standings.
The 25-year-old turned Marondera into his personal playground, producing a dazzling nine under-par 63 in the second round that left the rest of the field chasing shadows.
“I am very happy with the win and I look forward to continue with this fine form and finish high on the order of merit,” said Chikanyambidze.
“The competition is always tough but I managed to do well from the opening day through to the third and final round.”
It was a performance that oozed confidence and composure.
He carded rounds of 70, 63 and 78 for an overall five-under par 211, enough to claim his place in history as the first winner of the Mashonaland East Amateur.
Teen prodigy Nathan Van Rooyen finished a distant second on 221, while Toby Ellis took third on 222.
From the moment he ripped through that second round, Chikanyambidze looked like a man on a mission.
“My aim is to continue doing well and I am happy that we are having so much game time this season,” he said.
“It’s good for us to keep improving.”
With 304 points to his name and four major titles already this season, the rising star has now cemented his place as Zimbabwe’s top amateur.
And, if his form holds, the rest of the circuit may just be playing for second.
