VITOR IS GONE, WHAT’S IN STORE FOR MUNETSI?

WITH Vitor Pereira gone, what does the future hold for Marshall Munetsi?

It has been no secret that Pereira was massively fond of the Zimbabwean star.

The midfielder was often picked by Pereira for his relentless running and pressing.

But plenty of Wolves fans have felt that these things alone were never enough to justify his starter status.

Munetsi covers a lot of ground.

But there is nothing in the way of creativity and his passing leaves a lot to be desired.

With Pereira now gone, Munetsi’s time as a regular could be in jeopardy, as a new manager could place more emphasis on creativity and technical quality, which is not something he’s about.

Many Zimbabweans are unhappy that Munetsi has been pushed into a more attacking role at Wolves.

Munetsi made his name as a gritty midfielder than someone who could be a regular source of goals.

There are also questions about Fosun Group, which owns the club.

In September they signed off on a new deal for Pereira, convinced he was the right man to take the club forward. They gave him that contract as a reward for the work he did last season in keeping the club in the Premier League.

But the timing of it was horrendous given how much Wolves were struggling, and the stability they hoped the decision would create never came.

If anything, Fosun have only thrust themselves into the spotlight, and their reputation is at an all-time low.

One gets the feeling the pressure could now really crank up on them following this sorry situation.

If Gary O’Neil returns to manage the club, it could be a blessing for some oplayers.

The Brazilian midfielder was a big favourite of O’Neil’s during his tenure, and he really came into his own on the pitch.

Gomes said his bond with the Englishman was close. He said: “He worries a lot more about me than people from my own family, you know? The bond I have with him is great.”

While the return of O’Neil will not inspire fans, the number eight will be delighted he gets to work under him again. He will likely be the biggest winner across the whole Wolves squad.

Fer Lopez never got a chance under Pereira and had to settle for minimal minutes across cup games and the odd appearance off the bench.

The treatment of the Spaniard was strange, especially considering Wolves need someone with his creativity in the team. However, with a new manager, Lopez has a chance to kickstart his Wolves career.

O’Neil relied on the quality of Matheus Cunha, and with the Brazilian no longer at the club, Lopez could be the man to step into that shadow.

While not the same type of player, he is the most similar to Cunha, and he could be a big beneficiary. – Sports Reporter/Molineux News
