Robert Ng’ambi
(Platinum Stars)
Not one for the spotlight and better known for his commitment and high work-rate in midfield, Ng’ambi was brilliant as Stars won both the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout earlier this season.
Anssi Jaakkola (Ajax Cape Town)
Jaakkola was recommended to Ajax by former coach Muhsin Ertugral, and he played a key role in helping them stave off relegation. Won a number of Man of the Match awards, kept 10 clean-sheets and has been nominated for the PSL Goalkeeper of the Season award.
Anthony Laffor (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Hardly a regular at the start of the season, but injuries to the likes of Katlego Mashego, Cuthbert Malajila and Rodney Ramagalela provided the Liberian with a chance that he grabbed with both hands.
Willard Katsande (Kaizer Chiefs)
After a debut campaign with Chiefs where he collected yellow cards all to regularly, the Zimbabwean international has been Amakhosi’s standout and most consistent player this season. A new-found maturity has made its way into his game as he only picked up four cautions this campaign — and scored the deciding goal in the Soweto Derby.
Papy Faty (Bidvest Wits)
According to his Wits teammate Matthew Booth, the Burundian international is one of the most underrated players in the League.
Frank Mhango (Bloemfontein Celtic)
The Malawian hardly featured under Clinton Larsen, but the arrival of Ernst Middendorp proved just the tonic as Mhango found his goalscoring feet and has netted eight League goals. He has also been nominated for the PSL Young Player of the Season award.
Alje Schut (Mamelodi Sundowns)
When Schut joined Sundowns, he said he was joining to win trophies. Two seasons later and he had reached his objective, and played a starring role in doing so as he superbly marshalled the Brazilians with his leadership abilities.
Tendai Ndoro (Mpumalanga Black Aces)
Despite only arriving in January, the Zimbabwean showed his ability and has netted seven League goals this season — more than most strikers have in the entire campaign.
Knowledge Musona (Kaizer Chiefs)
Despite an injury-plagued season, Musona still managed 16 goals in 29 appearances during his second spell at Chiefs. Stuart Baxter must be wondering what could have been had the Zimbabwean stayed fit for the entire season.
Khama Billiat (Mamelodi Sundowns)
In a Mamelodi Sundowns team overflowing with star players, the Zimbabwean international is arguably the one player coach Pitso Mosimane misses most when he is unavailable. — Kick-off.com.
