JOBERT Ngwenya, a teacher at Eveline Girls High School in Bulawayo, has been nominated for the 2022 Accountability Lab Integrity Icon Award.
The global Integrity Icon Award ‘names and fames’ public servants who display exemplary integrity and make heroes out of ordinary people doing the right thing.
Ngwenya teaches entrepreneurship and is a champion in advocating for girls’ empowerment.
He has achieved a 100 percent pass rate between 2012 and 2019, and attributes his success as a teacher to his strong personal values.
“These are anchored on diligence, hard work and honesty.
“I derive satisfaction in seeing my students and alumni achieving personal goals.
“I always see myself as a ladder for my learners, and hearing their success stories always gives me something to smile about,” said Ngwenya.
Under his guidance, Eveline High relaunched its entrepreneurial education and financial literacy programme with Junior Achievement Zimbabwe in September 2016, achieving impressive results.
His students won the National Company of the Year Prize in 2019 and 2021.
In 2017, Eveline High participated in the School Enterprise Challenge, winning the Best Business Idea Award, Best Digital Business Award in 2018, and a student Enterprise Adventure Prize in 2020.
Ngwenya has advocated for student involvement in the school’s running via consultations on decisions which directly affect their welfare.
He also encourages student input on school policies before tabling them to the relevant offices.
Ngwenya coaches the Junior Achievement Club and the Teach a Man to Fish programme.
