ALICK Macheso’s camp insists it has plenty to learn from the new crop of stars in music, which is a universal language that unites creatives in their sector.
The Orchestra Mberikwazvo’s top brass made this assertion ahead of the 66th Castle Tankard horse race, scheduled for May 9 at Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare, where they will be sharing the stage with youngsters.
The event, running under the theme “Live It. Feel It. Share It”, will celebrate young talent and showcase the industry’s showbiz torch-bearers.
Nisha Ts, Madedido, Jah Master, and Uncle Epaton are part of the line-up, billed to perform at the biggest horse-racing jamboree.
Progress Chipfumo, who has been in the game for years, has been rewarded for his consistency with a slot.
However, it should be mentioned that the new crop of stars — who regularly tour Europe and SADC — will be under the spotlight.
“It’s always a good feeling to be sharing the stage with young stars because we also learn new stuff that appeals to current generations,” Macheso’s publicity spokesperson, Tichaona Makahamadze, told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub.
“By the way, this is not the first time we have shared the stage with these youngsters at an annual event where variety is guaranteed.
“We are grateful that the organisers are leaving no one behind, and this alone is a boost for the industry. As a camp, we are more than ready to embrace them because they are equally good as they are caring for the masses.”
Makahamadze assured punters that the artistes will deliver their best.
“We are grateful to the sponsors who have shown a lot of faith in us as a group because the platform has also enhanced our growth.
“It was at this venue where the Borrowdale dance was coined, and it still remains a special place for us,” he added.
Judging by the line-up, variety is guaranteed — covering both the old guard and the new school. For Chipfumo, this is the perfect opportunity he has been afforded to shine and write his name in bold and gold, proving he is not a “minnow” anymore.
The former Hohodza Hot Band leader has nothing to prove when it comes to live performances after years at the helm of the Sounds of Motherland Band.
As for Madedido, he will be out to prove that Zimdancehall is in safe hands.
Fellow chanters — Uncle Epaton and Jah Master — will have to justify their inclusion in this line-up, especially as merry-makers demand quality on stage.
As for Nisha Ts, the only female in this line-up, she will be out to show her evolution after assembling an all-female outfit. Buoyed by the support of her benefactor Tinashe Mutarisi, who gave her the platform to shine, Nisha Ts hardly disappoints whenever she takes to the stage.
Put simply, the icing on the cake is Macheso, the face of the Castle Tankard horse race.
