CHICKEN Inn forward, Malvin Hwata has become the latest local player to attract the interest of South Africa’s Supersport United, Zimpapers Sports Hub has learnt.
Supersport United chief scout, Paul Matthews was recently in the country where he was impressed by the performance of Hwata during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Dynamos that was played at Barbourfields Stadium almost a fortnight ago.
Matthews’ mission was to assess Gamecocks’ goalkeeper, Donovan Bernard.
“While Matthews’ sole purpose was to assess Donovan (Bernard), Hwata (Malvin) is one of the players that impressed him. He did well and Matthews talked about his flashes of brilliance,” said Gibson Mahachi a prominent agent in Zimbabwe.
On the day, the towering and forceful Hwata, who was unfortunate not to find the back of the net in a game that ended 0-0, was part of the Gamecocks forwards department that also has pacey Michael Charamba, stocky Brian Muza, new signing Brighton Makopa and Genius Mutungamiri, among other gifted players.
Hwata joined the Gamecocks family a couple of seasons ago from former Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Cranborne Bullets.
His telepathic understanding with Muza and Charamba recently helped them edge Highlanders 2-1 in an exciting Bulawayo derby tie.
In the previous years, the Simbisa Brands sponsored outfit exported club returnee Danny “Deco” Phiri, Tendai Ndoro, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Teenage Hadebe, Edmore Chirambadare, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, Edmore Chirambadare, Devine Lunga and Mitchell Katsvairo to South Africa’s topflight league.
They also managed to clinch deals for ex-Warriors midfielder, Tafadzwa Kutinyu in Tanzania before the player went on to play for Horoya in Guinea.
Chicken Inn secretary-general, Tavengwa Hara said it is pleasing to see clubs still getting attracted to their players.
“This has been happening for years now, our players continue to get foreign recognition. At times, we don’t know who is watching them. People are continuously getting attracted to our team and we will always ride on that reputation,” said Hara.
