Surprises, new faces on Zanu-PF candidates’ list

it out in primary elections set for Monday, with most bigwigs sailing through unopposed and a number of surprise returnees in several provinces.

Those who sailed through unopposed include Vice President Joice Mujuru (Mt Darwin West), Cdes Simon Khaya Moyo (Bulilima), Didymus Mutasa (Makoni Headlands), Emmerson Mnangagwa (Chirumanzu/Zibagwe), Dr Obert Mpofu (Umguza), Dr Herbert Murerwa (Goromonzi), Professor Jonathan Moyo (Tsholotsho North), Dr Olivia Muchena (Mutoko), Ambrose Mutinhiri (Marondera West) Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu (Insiza) and Cde Peter Haritatos (Muzvezve).

Also uncontested are Cdes Walter Mzembi (Masvingo South), Supa Mandiwanzira (Nyanga South), Irene Zindi (Mutare South) and Elias Musakwa (Bikita West).

Some bigwigs, however, have to sweat it out with aspiring candidates in their respective constituencies.

In Manicaland, Cde Kumbirai Kangai faces Egneti Makono and Kenneth Madziturira in Buhera constituency while in Makoni Central Cde Patrick Chinamasa squares up against Arda board chairman Cde Basil Nyabadza.

Cde Joseph Made faces Cdes Nation Matongorere, Sarapiya Makuyahundi and Kudzi Chipanga, while in Mutare West Manicaland Governor and Resident Minister Cde Christopher Mushohwe faces competition from Cdes Jonathan Kadzura and Maxwell Marangwanda.

Cde Joseph Chinotimba battles it out with Cde Langton Muchuwa in Buhera South, while Cde Samuel Undenge competes with Joshua Kurt Sacco and Fred Hlabiso for Chimanimani East constituency.

In Chimanimani West, Cdes Munacho Mutezo, Charles Muresherwa and Isaiah Choringwe will be battling it out.

Cde Enock Porusingazi faces Cdes Lazarus Ndlovu, Angela Hobwana, Lameck Mahlayeya, Charity Bhila and Skumbuzo Russel Tondlana in primary elections in Chipinge South, while Cdes William Mutomba squares off with Fanwell Chinzou in Buhera North as Cde Michael Nyambuya faces Cdes Chimbidzayi Sanyangare, Francis Mutonhodza and Febbie Nyahangare in Mutasa Central and North, Nyanga South and North in the senate.

In the Buhera West House of Assembly seat, top cop Oliver Mandipaka is battling it out with Cdes Emildah Gondo, Onias Mudzimu, Wilson Nzuma and Soul Nzuma, while Cde Shadreck Chipanga faces Cdes Agatha Muparutsa Mugomba, Tarisai Manzonzo and Lucia Chitura in Makoni in the senate.

In Mutare South, Cde Fred Kanzama meets Cdes Barbra Mutambanengwe, Nyasha Chikwinya, Petros Chidziya and Wilson Tendai Makedzenge in primary elections.

Under the women’s quota system, Cde Oppah Muchinguri faces Cde Joyce Hamandishe in Mutasa Central and North, Nyanga South and North.

In Mashonaland West Province Cde Ignatius Chombo battles it out for the Zvimba North House of Assembly seat with Cde Edwin Matibiri, Cde Webster Shamu and Cde John Mafa square off in Chegutu East and Cde Patrick Zhuwao faces Cde Francis Mukwangwariwa in Zvimba East constituency.

Cdes Philip Chiyangwa, Faber Chidarikire, Mathew Tapiwa Mugureyi, Richard Chafausipo and Philip Mvurume are competing for the Chinhoyi House of Assembly seat while Cde Temba Mliswa battles it out with Tinoziva Mahere, Patrick Maponga, Dorcas Bere and Joy Mafiro in Hurungwe West.

Eleven candidates are eyeing the Sanyati House of Assembly constituency and these include Kadoma based businessman Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, Cdes Ben Marufu, Lahliwe Mafa, Albert Mukechi, Edmore Madhaka, among others.

Cdes Nelson Samkange, Chester Mhende, Joseph Chirongoma, Andrew Tizora, Michael Tigere, Ziyambi Ziyambi, Emmanuel Tandi and Charles Nyachowe are meeting in primary elections and so do Cdes Christopher Mutsvangwa, Flavian Charumbira, Bybit Tsomondo and Ronald Chindedza in Norton while Cdes Sylvester Nguni, Nyarai Chasi and Kennias Shamuyarira are fighting for Mhondoro Mubaira constituency.

In the Chegutu West House of Assembly seat Cde Dexter Nduna meets Cdes Clever Kunonga, Bobo Makoni, Mudavanhu Shoko, Elijah Jabangwe and Lucia Muchenje in primaries so does Cdes Bright Matonga, Mike Gava, Col Jacob Nhidza and Langton Chikazha in Mhondoro-Ngezi.

Under the women’s quota Cdes Constance Tsomondo Shamu, Getrude Munzwandi and Elizabeth Nyanyiwa are battling it out in Chegutu while Cdes Josephine Mangove, Rose Ngomalala are facing off in Kadoma and so do Mary Phiri and Caroline Mugabe in Zvimba.

In Masvingo, Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Lovemore Matuke battles it out with Cde Benson Dandira in the Gutu Central House of Assembly seat while governor Titus Maluleke faces stiff competition from Cdes Takunda Bere, Darlington Chiwa, Veronika Makonese, Mavis Demba and Eustina Magocha in Chiredzi West. In Gutu South Cde Paul Chimedza squares off with Cde Guni while Cde Paul Mangwana competes for Chivi Central with Cdes Meke Chamwadoro and Efraim Gwanangodza.

In the senate Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire faces Cdes Maina Mandava and Clemence Makwarimba in Masvingo constituency while in Chivi-Mwenezi Cde Samuel Mumbengegwi fights it out with Cdes Josiah Hungwe and Rexon Jaka as Cdes Claudious Makova faces Cde Stanley Chabvepi in Bikita.

In Matabeleland South Cdes Kembo Mohadi, Lawrence Tshili Philimon Mbedzi, and Johane Ndou square off in Beitbridge East as Cde Andrew Langa meets Cdes Patrick Hove and Gibson Siziba in Insiza North.

Cdes Chen Chimutengwende faces Cdes Agnes Angela Dete, Enock Nyakudya, Tapfuma Matavire, Gladys Kambizi, Merisedia Mudzidzi and Jaqueline Mukanganyama in Mazowe in the senate as Cdes Remigious Matangira, Martin Dinha and Venenzia Madake square off in the Bindura South House of Assembly seat. Cdes Tongai Kasukuwere, Kenneth Musanhu, Susan Majuru, Takawira Muzondo, Ratidzai Murovahopo and Batsirai Musona fight for Bindura North.

In Mt Darwin South Cde Saviour Kasukuwere meets Cde Benson Kadzinga in the primaries while Cde Christopher Kuruneri battles it out with Cdes Pachawo Musanhi, Cephas Murambiza, Felix Chigango, Bensio Chiramba and Brighton Chitumba as Cde David Butau, Paul Mazikana and Romeo Chasasa face off in Mbire in the House of Assembly.

Mashonaland provincial chairman Cde Dickson Mafios faces stiff competition in Mt Darwin from Cdes Isaac Kararira, Peter Musanhu, Lemas Gatsi, Benedict Mutinhima, John Gowa, Thomas Muripira, Cecilia Bandasi, Never David and Christopher Biton.

In Mashonaland East, businessman Ray Kaukonde battles it out with Cde Benard Taruvinga, Harold Mukungatu and Nelson Watyoka in Marondera Central in the House of Assembly while Cde Paddy Zhanda faces Cde Charles Maredza in Goromonzi North.

Cdes Amos Midzi, Bernard Mhizha and Coxwell Chigwanha are meeting in Epworth in Harare as Cdes Gabriel Chaibva, Maureen Nyemba and Artwell Marwa fight it out in Sunningdale while Cdes Christopher Chigumba, Endy Mhlanga and Alexander Mushawatu are battling for Chitungwiza South constituency.

Cdes Charles Tawengwa and Cleveria Chizema are contesting the Hwata Constituency senate seat. Cde Robson Mhandu competes with Tapfumaneyi Banhire, Luku Maworera and Mary Chakanyuka for the Chitungwiza North House of Assembly seat.

A snapshot of the Midlands province shows Cde Rugare Gumbo faces Cde July Moyo in Mberengwa senatorial seat while Cdes Simbarashe Mumbengegwi squares off with Cdes David Ruzive and F. Mbengo while Cde Flora Bhuka is unopposed. Cdes Joram Gumbo and Tenias Shava meet in Mberengwa West while in Kwekwe Cdes Clarissa Muchengeti, Caroline Mazvovere and Auxilia Mnangagwa square off in Kwekwe in the senate.

Cde Khaya-Moyo expressed confidence in the candidates describing them as “first class and super”.
“These are men and women of caliber. They are very politically mature candidates who participated in the liberation struggle in one way or the other,” he said.

Politburo approved the names of the candidates at its last meeting in Harare.
