Suspect commits suicide in cells

Mashonaland Central provincial spokesperson Inspector Memory Pamire said Petros Chibushe (27) of Hombashava Village in Chief Rusambo’s area was arrested on June 13 for breaking into people’s houses.

Insp Pamire said Chibushe was arrested and police found him in possession of dagga.
She said further investigations revealed that Chibushe had other outstanding cases that he committed last year including stock theft and unlawful entry.

The police also discovered that Chibushe was on the police wanted list after escaping from details transferring him to Rushinga from Borrowdale police station in Harare in April this year.
Police, in their routine cells-check however, found Chibushe dead after he hanged himself in the cells using a long sleeved shirt that he strung onto some iron bars on the cell doors.

Chibushe also shredded some blankets to make some ropes.
Insp Pamire said Chibushe’s body was taken to Mount Darwin hospital for post-mortem.

She said investigations were in progress and they were waiting for a post-mortem.
