Suspected armed robbers up for illegal possession of firearms

Five men suspected to be involved in a spate of robberies in and around Harare have appeared in court.

Alfa Mananga, 32, Zondani Ngarande, 25, Courage Takunda Dumba, 35, Robson Mhandu, 29, and Thulani Munetsi, 43, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Stanford Mambanje.

Mhandu and Dumba were remanded at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where they are currently admitted.

The duo were wounded during a shootout with the police before their arrest.

The gang was advised to seek bail at the High Court and expected back in court on February 20 for their routine remand.

Dumba, Ngarande, Mananga, Mhandu and Munetsi are also being charged with unlawful possession of firearms.

The State alleges that the five were involved in a number of armed robberies where they robbed complainants of money, properties and vehicles.

The armed robberies were allegedly conducted in Sunway City, Damafalls, Zimre Park, Msasa Park and Mt Pleasant among other places.

Some of the property was recovered.
