Suspected fish poacher drowns

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said the incident happened last week.

He identified the deceased as Happison Mumbire, of Farm 1, Hippo Valley Estates, Chiredzi.

“On 16 November, Mumbire was allegedly seen by Mr Parunovengwa Dzinonwanda of the same address, going to Farm 2 dam for fishing. It is alleged that Mumbire did not return home on the same day and a search was conducted by his relatives and other villagers.

“Their first search could not yield any positive results until Tuesday when his body was seen floating in the dam.

“The body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, was positively identified by Mr Jonathan Haisa, of Village 1, Samba Range, Triangle and retrieved by villagers,” he said.

He said a report was made on Wednesday and police attended the scene. The body was conveyed to Chiredzi District Hospital mortuary for postmortem. However, the postmortem was waived and the deceased will be buried at his homestead soon, he said.
