A POLICE officer stationed at Ruwa Police Station, who is accused of murder, has been granted bail.
Prince Ndavambi, who is facing murder charges, appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo, where the State consented to his release on US$400 bail.
He is scheduled to return to court on July 2, pending the finalisation of investigations.
According to the State, on May 27, Ndavambi arrested the now-deceased individual (whose name is not disclosed in court documents) in connection with an assault and theft case.
The suspect was taken to ZRP Ruwa Police Station, where Ndavambi allegedly assaulted him with a hoe handle, striking him repeatedly across the body.
After the assault, Ndavambi reportedly detained the injured man in police cells and left the station.
Later that evening, the victim’s condition deteriorated, prompting authorities to transfer him to Ruwa Rehabilitation Clinic.
Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Two post-mortem examinations were conducted, with both recommending further toxicology and histology tests to determine the exact cause of death.
