A GWERU based Zanu-PF supporter, on remand pending trial for allegedly disrupting First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe’s rally at Hartsfields Grounds in October last year, has died.Emmanuel Mzorera, 37, died at home in Gweru on December 26.

Mzorera’s father took his son’s death certificate to prosecutors yesterday and the cause of death was given as pneumonia.

The man was expected to appear before provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze on Friday for continuation of trial for disrupting a public event.

Mzorera had initially pleaded guilty to picking up a microphone during the First Lady’s rally in Bulawayo.

However, when the magistrate asked   him to confirm that he had indeed intended to disrupt the proceedings at the rally,  he said he had wanted to deliver a solidarity message.

He was later taken for a mental examination after his parents submitted medical records showing he suffered from a mental illness.

The State led by Dennmore Kasenza alleged that Mzorera walked onto the podium at AmaZulu Sports Club and picked  up a microphone without permission on October 15.
