A suspected armed robber believed to have been part of a gang that has been targeting bars and nightclubs, terrorising cashiers and patrons in Bulawayo, has been arrested.

The suspect has been identified as Nhlanhla Ncube alias Prosper, aged 36.

Circumstances are that, on March 2, 2025, Ncube, together with his accomplices identified as Farai Simba Sibanda, Learnmore Sibanda and another only identified as Prosper, who are still at large, went on a robbing spree.

They pounced on a complainant who was about to close at Mantshalini Sports Bar before robbing him of US$1 000, and terrorised the patrons.

On the same day at around 2255 hours, they targeted Nketa 7 Tavern while they were armed with pistols and knives.

They manhandled the complainants, demanding cash and other valuables before taking keys to the strong room, which they used to gain access and stole some cash.

The gang also stole an assortment of beers. Police said the suspects also pounced on another complainant on March 16, 2025, after they stormed into a shop before getting away with valuables.

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said Ncube’s luck ran out when police received information that he was behind the commission of one of the robberies.

His arrest led to the recovery of the weapons used during the commission of the crimes which include a machete, a pick head, two small axes and a black AK-SAARMSA21 blank gun.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the outstanding suspects.
