Suspected robber remanded on hospital bed

A BULAWAYO man was yesterday remanded on his hospital bed on allegations of raiding a residential flat in the Central Business District at gun point in the company of four accomplices who are still at large. Daniel Nkosi, whose age was not given, was allegedly shot by detectives on the leg while trying to escape soon after the incident.
He is also facing two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly shot two complainants who are tenants at the flat situated at Number 40 A Josiah Tongogara Street on Tuesday.

Nkosi, whose address was given as Greenspan Farm Compound and employed as a soldier based at HQ 1 Brigade, was remanded to 9 August.
It is alleged that on Tuesday at about 9am, Nkosi and four accomplices went to the flat.

Nkosi allegedly entered the flat with two accomplices while the other two remained on guard outside.
While inside, the three allegedly found two women doing laundry.

The court was told that Nkosi and two accomplices produced guns, which they pointed at the two women before force-marching them into the apartment.

Inside, Nkosi and his gang met the occupant, Ms Aisha Moosa Lunat and he allegedly shot her in the abdomen to silence her.
This was after she asked the two women what was going on. The court was told that the three went to third floor of the building where they met Mrs Najma Lunat who they allegedly threatened with a gun and demanded cash.

Nkosi allegedly force-marched her into her bedroom where he ransacked the room and stole $20 and jewellery.
Mrs Lunat phoned her husband, Mr Ahmed Lunat informing him about the armed robbery.

When Mr Lunat arrived, Nkosi and the other two escaped through the sanitary lane while two more members of the gang also fled from the scene.
Mr Lunat gave chase in his vehicle and Nkosi shot at him and shattered the left rear passenger window, the court was told.

Police swiftly reacted following a tip-off and chased Nkosi who dropped a set of silver bangles which he had stolen from the flat.
The total value of the stolen property was $5 000 and only property valued at $200 was recovered.
