A suspected serial thief in Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb will rue the day he was apprehended while he was reportedly leaving the property after stealing US$20 and R1200 after he was bashed before being handed over to the police.

It is reported that last Friday, Muziwakhe Sithole allegedly entered a house in Emganwini while it was unoccupied.

He scaled a precast wall to access the yard and then broke a living room window to gain entry.

Reports alleged that he stole a laptop. However, his escape was reportedly thwarted when he heard footsteps in the yard

He then hid behind the door as the homeowner, Sheila Mashamba, entered the house.

It is reported that Sithole then struck Mashamba on the head with the laptop as she entered the room unaware of his presence.

He dropped the gadget and fled.

Sithole fled and sought refuge at a neighbour’s house where he was apprehended by Clever Ndlovu who started questioning him.

Sithole managed to escape again. Ndlovu and Mashamba then reported the incident to the police.

It is reported that Sithole was caught when he allegedly committed another burglary this week on Tuesday in Emganwini suburb.

He is accused of stealing US$20 and R1200 from another house. Residents apprehended him while he was reportedly leaving the property and bashed him before they handed him over to the police.

For the offense Sithole appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube facing two counts of unlawful entry and theft.

He was remanded out of custody to 27 March.
