Suspended Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango was turned away after he tried to attend a full council meeting on Tuesday.
There was a brief interruption of proceedings when Chisango walked in. Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume whispered something to him and walked him out of the meeting.

Mayor Mafume later indicated that Chisango was on suspension pending the outcome of charges that have been levelled against him. Mr Mafume said Chisango had been served with his suspension letter.

During the suspension, he is prohibited from entering any of the council’s premises and from acting on behalf of the City of Harare.

Chisango was suspended over a series of allegations which include the $9,2 million street lighting scandal.

Other allegations include the alleged illegal extension of his contract, which expired in July last year.
