HEIR LINE, from the Kirk Swanson yard, won the Republic Cup at Borrowdale on Saturday.

Trained by Kirk Swanson and bred by Varsfontein Stud, Heir Line is owned by Dave Ward, Gary Carter, Vikkas Patel, Sean Gorringe, Paula Lewis and Paul and Ursula Gorringe and the runner had Keagan de Melo as the pilot.

Simona, winner of the OK Grand Challenge, was chasing a feature double on the day with $60 000 Republic Cup, sponsored by the Republic Cup Trust, but finished as the runner-up.

The main race was run over 1 900 meters and it saw Bush Pilot and Master Switch finished third and fourth.

Simona ran on gamely from the back of the field, but couldn’t catch the four-year-old son of Dynasty who crossed the line with 1.00 lengths.

Under a brave ride from Melo, the winner went wide, found the front and held on to win the $60 000 purse race.
