Swaziland 1-1 Malawi
THE Malawi Under-20 national football team were forced to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Swaziland in an African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games men’s football encounter played at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday. Swaziland were off to a good start doing most of the probing and were rewarded in the 38th minute when a Wandile Dlamini header from a free kick hit the back of the nets.

With Swaziland in the lead, frustration mounted in the Flames’ side as the game became more physical which saw three Malawian players getting yellow cards in the last 10 minutes of the first half.

It was in the second half that Swaziland were punished after Melusi Nyaweni, who was booked in the 28th minute, got a second yellow card in the 52nd minute which forced South African referee Thando Ndzandzeki to reach for his red card to send the young man for an early shower.

Malawi took the opportunity to pile on the pressure pushing four men upfront in search of an equaliser. Their prayers were answered 83 minutes into the match when Yusuf Luwanda scored in a one-on-one situation with the Swaziland goalkeeper.

Malawian coach Devlerk Msakakuona said he was happy with the draw.
