BULAWAYO Chiefs coach, Lizwe Sweswe, says his charges are ready for their battle against FC Platinum in the Castle Challenge Cup set for Saturday at Mandava.
The showdown is the league curtain-raiser and features the champions and winners of the Chibuku Super Cup.
Chiefs last season battled serious financial constraints which resulted in an exodus of key players. Reports even suggested the club would collapse.
However, they registered for another dance in the domestic Premiership. They haven’t played a competitive friendly match this pre-season but that doesn’t seem to bother Sweswe.
“Our preparations are going well, as a team, we are doing well,” said Sweswe.
“The players look ready but that has to be seen on the field of play. The best way for players to gel is only by having them playing games together. It takes a number of games sometimes for players to gel but we would like to believe that the boys are ready to battle.”
He added: “During pre-season, we are worried about the condition of our players as we have to make sure they are ready for the season.” he said.
