NEW Highlanders Football Club signing Calvin Chigonero has been tipped to shine in the black and white colours by his previous coach Lizwe Sweswe.
The 21-year-old FC Talen Vision forward joined Bosso on a season’s loan on Tuesday. He makes the switch to Amahlolanyama at the back of a successful season in which he scored 17 goals, all from open play in the Zifa Southern Region Division One league as Talen Vision finished third on the log.
Talen Vision coach Sweswe has no doubt the forward will bang goals at the Bulawayo giants.
“The boy is one of those players who are just natural goal scorers. But there are levels in football whereby as a young player you need that adjustment but my advice which l have communicated with him is he should continue from where he left off.
“Scoring is a skill which he already possesses. The coach can only add a few things like how to get into those scoring positions. With Chigonero it’s all about getting into scoring positions and he will deliver.
He can score for fun and he is also technically good.
“This next level may be a bit intimidating but l know the boy is brave. I am confident he will be a good addition to Highlanders,” said Sweswe.
Kung Fu Panda, as Chigonero is affectionately known, played for Mpumelelo FC in the Zifa Bulawayo Provincial Juniors League from 2013 to 2017. He also represented his school Mpopoma High school at various national competitions.
Chigonero is the second addition to the Bosso squad following the promotion of Bosso90 captain Gillian Nyathi as Highlanders look to mount a serious title challenge next season after finishing fifth in the period 2021/22, which was an achievement seeing that they were struggling to even get into the top 10 under Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu.
In terms of departures, Bosso have said they will not be renewing the contract of former Young Warriors attacking midfielder Bukhosi Sibanda when it expires at the end of the month. Crispen Ncube, Toto Banda and Muziwakhe Dlamini are also said to be on their way out of Tshilamoya and the only hurdle the club is trying to clear is the fact that the trio still has running contracts.
Highlanders’ coach Baltemar Brito is on record saying he wants patient players who are comfortable with the ball, positionally disciplined and able to follow instructions. – @innocentskizoe
