Sweswe wants championship title

fourth in the 2012/2013 campaign.
Sweswe joined the side at beginning of last season after nearly four years at Kaizer Chiefs.
Had his contract been renewed at Chiefs, Sweswe could have won his first league championship medal in South Africa.

The former Highlanders and Dynamos defenders said he was pleased with his contribution at BidVest Wits, where he was commanding a regular jersey in the heart of defence.

“My first season at BidVests Wits was okay because I played almost 80 percent of the matches for the club.

“I had a reputation because I was coming from a big team and was I carrying an injury so I had to fight hard to settle down quickly.

“I had just had an operation on the knee but overally I am happy with my performance in the just-ended season.

“I think I made a positive contribution for the modest team, considering that I was coming from a very big club

“We were happy with our final position (4th) on the log because it was big achievement. Big teams like Mamelodi Sundowns (10th) were far below us on the log table and it showed that we had a good team at Wits.

“I hope this season we will fight harder to achieve more,” said Sweswe.
Sweswe joined Wits together with former Zimbabwean international, Tinashe Nengomasha, who had been a mainstay at Chiefs for almost a decade.

“Football is all the same, but the only change was on the supporters. At Kaizer Chiefs there is always pressure in every game that you play because the fans want results.

“The fans demand results no matter how you play, but as a professional player you have to adapt to all the situations,” he said.

Along with the seasoned campaigner Nengomasha, Sweswe believes they have forced a lot of neutrals to take notice of Wits’ achievements.

“I play in defence and Tinashe in midfield, just like we did at Kaizer Chiefs where Knowledge Musona, another Zimbabwean, played in attack and we used to be the spine of Kaizer Chiefs.

“Denver arrived at the team in January and he featured in a few games but I think Tinashe and I were the spine of the team already.

“So the coming in of Denver means we will complete another Zimbabwean connection because we had been missing a striker from Zimbabwe,” said Sweswe.

The former Mwana Africa and Manning Rangers’ player is confident that Mukamba will be commanding a regular jersey next season if he continues working hard.

“Denver has played a few games but I know he is a very good player and will come alright.
“He was settling down and the coaches were trying to get him into the new system.

“I know he will play soon and everyone loves him at the club,” he said.
In the next season, BidVest Wits will have a change in coaching personnel as Clive Barker makes way for Gavin Hunt.

“The change in coaches is an advantage to players like Denver and others because he could impress the new coach.

“During pre-season we will all be new to the coach because he would be seeing us for the first time. It’s like we will all be on trials to impress the coach.

“So we all start at the same level and it’s up to us the players to impress the new coach,” Sweswe said yesterday.

The tough-tackling defender said he not aware that former Wits goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro is keen to play for the club again.

“I do not know anything about Energy (Murambadoro) coming back to BidVest but I know that he has a contract with the club but he has not been around.”

Sweswe is hoping to use the off-season to clear himself in the long-winding Asia-gate scandal and remains confident that he has the right legal team, which was tasked to help him by his club, to weather the storm.
