promotion seeks to find a new musical theme for Swift’s marketing efforts through the public’s participation.
The competition, which is being run with support from Star FM, the first commercial radio in Zimbabwe, is being aired on the popular Breakfast Club Show hosted by Comfort Mbofana and Blackbird.
“This is going to be one of the most exciting marketing activities we’ve ever been involved in,” said marketing director Abraham Mahiya.
“The response so far has been out of this world. It’s amazing just how much musical talent there is out there.”
The competition, which ran until December, gives participants a chance to write a song, sing it, and submit it in order to stand a chance of not only having the song become Swift’s theme for 2013, but the entrant winning prizes valued at over US$2 500.
The prizes include US$500 cash, and a chance for the singer/songwriter to spend a day recording his/her own music in a professional recording studio.
Entries are being uploaded on Swift’s Facebook page, and competition rules and terms of reference can also be found there.
“Anyone and everyone can enter” beamed Kerne Mackie, Swift’s public relations manager. “We’re looking for that gem of a song that is uniquely Zimbabwean. A song that reflects how Swift keeps Zimbabwe moving.”
The songs have to be a minimum of three minutes and must include certain words that we have specified in the rules.
“All music styles or genres are welcome.”
Mackie went on: “There’s a song in each and every one of us. It is our hope that, that song is a Swift song.”
