ZIMBABWE Table Tennis Association technical director Newman Gomendo said yesterday that preparations for the weekend table tennis Open Tournament set for Prince Edward High School in Harare were progressing well. He said many players had confirmed their participation at the prestigious event. The two- day tournament will be used as a pool to select players for the Region 5 Games that are set for Namibia early next month.

“We’re now at an advanced stage with our preparations. Players are eager to compete for a ticket to Namibia and this will make the competition more interesting,” said Gomendo.

He said in order to make the event more competitive, the organisers of the tournament had invited players from outside the country with players from Botswana, Zambia and Malawi set to grace the occasion.

Ajay Singh will carry Zimbabwe’s hopes. There will be juniors and seniors categories.
