TABOO TERROR! Man bashes mum

A CHIPINGE man broke African tradition by viciously assaulting his mother, an act considered taboo and deeply shameful in local culture.

The 35-year-old man from Makiwa Village under Chief Garahwa found himself in trouble with the law after he unleashed fists and a log on his 60-year-old mother during a late-night domestic altercation.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the brutal attack occurred on 20 July 2025 around 10pm. The man, who was not named by the NPAZ, arrived home and started a dispute with a family member. When his mother attempted to calm the situation, she became the target of his violent outburst.

“He punched her on the face and head, then struck her legs with a log,” said the NPAZ in a statement. “The victim sustained visible injuries and was medically examined.”

Despite the trauma and stigma, the elderly woman reported the incident to the police, who acted swiftly to arrest and prosecute the offender.

The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to 16 months in prison, wholly suspended on the condition that he performs 420 hours of community service.

In African culture, laying a hand on your parent is the ultimate desecration of tradition. Beating up your mother is like cursing your own life.
