THE Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Academy managed to amass a total of 29 medals at the Taekwondo South African Invitational Championships held at Johannesburg on Saturday.
Zimbabwe International taekwondo Academy team had 19 athletes to win seven gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals in their first attempt in the high-profile tournament that had several countries.
Li Songze was the biggest winner after winning gold medals in both sparring and pattern styles.
Also making a mark was Kondwani Ngwira, who returned home with a silver medal in sparring, bronze patterns and special techniques.
Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Academy coach Evan Brown, who travelled with the team was happy with the medals and said they are looking forward to take part in more international tournaments.
“We are happy with the performances of the athletes and we will be back home today (yesterday). The team did well and we are grateful that as a team comprised of junior athletes from eight to 15 years. We are preparing for the future.
“We appreciate the parents and guardians who made the trip possible and we are looking forward to more tournaments,” said Brown.

Siya Moyo (sparring and patterns), Chloe Semu (Bronze sparring), Zvipozvashe Makanga (Silver sparring), Maluwa Ngwira (bronze sparring and patterns), Vuyelwa Moyo (Silver sparring and bronze patterns), Tawongaishe Samukange (bronze sparring).
