TAF global conference to chart Africa’s future

THE African Federation (TAF) has announced its inaugural global conference aimed at mobilising African leaders, professionals and the diaspora towards what the organisation describes as the institutional reclamation and long-term transformation of the continent.
The high-level virtual conference, to be led by Ms Elisabeth Valerio, Chief Executive Officer of The African Federation and the TAF executive leadership team, is expected to mark the organisation’s transition from policy formulation to implementation-driven programmes.
In a statement, TAF said the conference seeks to position Africa as a coordinated and self-determined global force capable of driving its own development agenda.
The organisation said Africa has for decades been treated as a platform for external interests and influence, resulting in fragmented development efforts and weak institutional structures and the conference intends to address these challenges through six strategic focus areas namely Economy, Environment, Governance, FutureTech, Narrative and Wellness.
“Our focus is on building strong institutions, strengthening partnerships and coordinating action across the continent.
We are not gathering to debate or agonise about what Africa needs. We are gathering to organise and implement what Africa must build. The era of the spectator is over,” said Ms Valerio.
She said the conference brings together Africans on the continent and in the diaspora to align around a common vision of a prosperous, united and sovereign Africa.
According to TAF, the initiative is anchored on Pan-African values and seeks to promote inter-African cooperation as part of efforts to restore the continent’s unity and economic strength.
The organisation says it envisions Africa becoming a global superpower by 2050, with development and prosperity benefiting the majority of citizens rather than a select few.
A Pan-African organisation, TAF was founded through collaboration among Africans and driven by a commitment to future generations.
