Tagara speaks on World Champs preps

The championships are scheduled to run from August 10 to 18.

Sprinter Gabriel Mvumvure qualified in the men’s 100 metres with 9.98 seconds at the Star Athletics Sprint Series in Florida, United States, early last month.
Long distance runner Cephas Pasipamire booked his place in the marathon event.

Tagara said Mvumvure is competing in Europe to qualify for the 200m together with Ngonidzashe Makusha who is hoping to qualify in the long jump.
The NAAZ president said they were hopeful long jumper, Namatirai Maugare, who is based in the United States, will also make it.

“Ngoni is yet to qualify and they are competing in Europe with Mvumvure who is pushing to qualify for the 200m.
“Ngoni will only be doing long jump, that’s the only event he will be pushing for.

“For women, no one has qualified but there is Namatirai Maugare based in the United States, she is competing in long jump,” said Tagara.
The NAAZ president said there was still time for the athletes to try and make the qualifying standards with the national association set to enter the final team at the end of this month.

“There is still time to qualify because we should be entering our final team on July 26,” said Tagara.
Makusha, who missed last year’s Olympic Games in London due to injury, will be hoping to make it for the World Championships.
