RECENTLY nominated Zanu PF Central Committee members, who include businessman Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei, now only await ratification of their membership at the next meeting of the ruling party’s highest decision-making body between congresses in compliance with the party’s constitution.
The Zanu PF Central Committee meeting held yesterday deferred the item to enable other provinces to bring their co-opted members so that the ratification process would be done on a national scale instead of a few provinces.
In an interview yesterday, Zanu PF Director of Information and Publicity, Cde Farai Marapira, said the item on ratification of new Central Committee members was rolled over to the next meeting.
“It is just a procedural issue. The Central Committee has to ratify those cadres first before they assume membership in the Central Committee,” said Cde Marapira.
Zanu PF Harare Province recommended that Cde Tagwirei be appointed a Central Committee member.
Cde Tagwirei is one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent businesspeople with interests in several sectors of the economy, including energy, mining, transport, construction and agriculture.
The businessman is the founder and chief executive of petroleum giant, Sakunda Holdings Group.
Over the years, he has expanded his business empire to cover key sectors of the economy.
