THE Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust has received a shot in the arm following a donation of US$250 000 by philanthropist and renowned businessman, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

Dr Tagwirei made the donation during the Trust’s fundraising Gala Dinner and Projects Launch held on Monday at a Harare hotel, an event that was dedicated to celebrating the legacy of unity, peace and national pride through sport and cultural engagement.

Confirming the donation, Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust founding trustee and special projects director, Mr Kwanele Hlabangana, said the gesture by Dr Tagwirei will go a long way in supporting the Trust’s initiatives.

“The major highlight of the evening was a gracious and timely donation of US$250,000.00 from Dr Kudakwashe Regimond Tagwirei of Sakunda Holdings, a philanthropist and renowned businessman, towards the Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust.

As the Joshua Nkomo Legacy Restoration Project Trust, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr Tagwirei for his remarkable generosity and commitment to preserving the legacy of Dr Joshua Nkomo,” said Mr Hlabangana.

Mr Hlabangana said the gala also served as the official launch platform for transformative legacy projects and initiatives such as the Joshua Nkomo Peace Marathon, pencilled for April 26, 2026, and the Joshua Nkomo High Performance, Fitness and Wellness Centre.

He said the event, which coincided with the Unity Day Commemorations, took on added significance as it highlighted Dr Nkomo’s pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s struggle for unity and peace, adding that its timing was a deliberate choice to underscore Dr Nkomo’s values of peace, love, unity, tolerance and reconciliation, which remain relevant today.
