A FINE spell of bowling from Mgcini Dube broke the back of the Mbizo innings and paved the way for a convincing nine-wicket victory for Takashinga Patriots 2 in their National Premier League (NPL) match at Takashinga Cricket Club on Saturday.
Batting first, the visitors lost their openers for 10 runs on the board, with Dube bowling out Ahsan Aqil Ali in his second over for four.
He then broke through the middle order to such effect that seven wickets were down for 47 runs.
Walter Matawu fought back well for Mbizo with a gallant 46 off 60 balls, and the captain Ronald Masocha (22) helped in an eighth-wicket partnership of 44, but the innings closed for 116.
Dube finished with the fine figures of five wickets for 14 runs in six overs.
Takashinga soon lost the wicket of Daichi Nyandoro for 12, but then Tawanda Maposa came in and made light on the target as he punished the bowling for 69 not out off only 42 balls.
He was helped by Tanu Makoni, 32 not out, in an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 108, before he finished the match with a six in the 16th over.
He hit altogether three sixes and nine fours as Takashinga completed a convincing victory.
Meanwhile, an excellent bowling performance of six wickets for 28 runs from Arineshto Vhezha was the main factor in Strikers’ five-wicket victory over Amakhosi in their NPL meeting at Kwekwe Sports Club on Saturday.
