TAKASHINGA Cricket Club suffered a two-run defeat at the hands of touring Uganda national cricket team in the opening T20 match at the club’s home.
Uganda drew first blood after scoring 166/6 in their allotted 20 Overs while Takashinga scored 164/5 in their response, and falling short by a mere two runs.
Baxon Gopito scored 56 runs for the hosts but it was not enough to help the Highfield-based side cross the line.
Uganda’s Ronak Patel was voted Man of the Match after he top scored for with 73runs. The two sides are expected to meet in the second T20 tomorrow (Tuesday).
The series also includes two night matches between Uganda and a Zimbabwe Under-25 Select side this Friday and Saturday at Harare Sports Club.
Uganda are using the tour of Takashinga as preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in Namibia, which Zimbabwe’s Chevrons will also be part of later this month.
The tourists will play a total of six matches in Harare before heading off to Namibia for the qualifying tournament.
