UNITED States of America Ambassador Bruce Wharton has challenged youths in the country to partake in cultural programmes that educate other countries about Zimbabwean values.Wharton made the call at the Youth Cross Border Culture Exchange Programme in Matopo on Thursday.
Only Zimbabwe and Botswana took part in the exchange programme but plans are under way to involve more countries in future events.
Selected students from the two countries took part in a three day camp which taught them about the diversity and similarities between their cultures.
Speaking at the function, Wharton said cultural exchange programmes play an important part in nation building and educating other countries with information on Zimbabwe.
“Today we learnt a lot about Zimbabwean culture. We saw some eye-catching traditional dances from the two countries,” he said.
Wharton said follow up events would be held in the future, teaching students and out of school youths on the importance of preserving their culture.
“We want follow up programmes next year so that we build from what we have learnt from this gathering. Today, all of us here learnt a lot about the two countries’ diverse cultures and this will go a long way in creating an understanding between the two neighbours,” he said.
Performing student groups Texas Queens and Empire Teens gave some captivating traditional performances.
