BULILIMA West Constituency legislator Dingumuzi Phuti has urged the youth in his constituency to take extracurricular activities at school seriously as they could make careers out of them.
Speaking at a football tournament held at Dombodema Secondary School on Saturday, Phuti, who is also Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services, said the tournament was aimed at uniting the community.
“We are doing this to bring people together.
We also want the pupils to have an appreciation of the importance of extracurricular activities as well as value sport,” he said.
Deputy Minister Phuti said the tournament is now an annual event for selected schools from his constituency.
“This is also entertainment for the community and gives them an opportunity to interact with the
leadership at different levels,” he said.
Five secondary schools, Dombodema, Tokwana, Malalume, Bambadzi and Ivimila took part in the tournament that had football and netball matches.
Dombodema High School won the boys’ football final after beating Ivimila 1-0 in the final.
Dombodema beat Ivimila 13-4 to be crowned netball champions.
As part of its corporate social responsibility programmes, TelOne donated the prizes with all participating schools receiving football and netball kits.
Dombodema received two trophies for the football and netball teams and was awarded free Wi-Fi for three months.
TelOne also donated food hampers to the vulnerable and paint to selected public institutions. — @innocentskizoe
