The business community has been urged to take ISO certification seriously to improve the quality of their products and services to remain competitive.Seed Co managing director Mr Denias Zaranyika, who was guest of honour at the National Annual Quality Awards hosted by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe in Harare on Wednesday, urged firms to embrace ISO certification.
“I want to urge you to constantly do checks and balances in relation to your quality processes and procedures by engaging SAZ in order to get certification which has proved to be successful not only in Zimbabwe, but the world over.
“Organisations should therefore embrace value addition as well in order to improve on quality of their products or services to ensure continued competitiveness on the market,” he said.
Integrated Properties (Pvt) Limited, the only ISO 9001:2008 certified independent firm of local professionals, was voted Company of the Year in the SMEs category, small to medium enterprises.
Peace Security Company scooped the Company of the Year award in the SMEs category, large enterprises. Another security company, Volsec, scooped the Service of the Year award in the Small to Medium Enterprises category while the company is also ISO 9001:2008 certified and has a Safety Health and Environment policy.
Service of the Year award for the large enterprises went to The Avenues Clinic, which is also an ISO 9001:2008 certified institution. Product of the Year award was scooped by Mukati Investments, trading as Well Pure water who specialise in the supply of water dispensers, cup dispensers and water bottling.
Individual award for Quality Service of the Year went to Ms Sipho Muloyi, who was also recently honoured by the National Social Security Authority for her excellence and service to the health sector that spans more than 30 years.
Chairman for the adjudication committee Mr Petros Nobert Ndanga expressed optimism that recipients of awards would make the grade at the Sadc quality awards scheduled for later this year.
“The quality that was exhibited by the submissions we received from tonight’s winners certainly put them in a good position to come back home with awards from the Sadc quality awards that will be held later,” he said.
The NAQA 2013 edition was the third, having been launched in 2011.
