CHAMPION Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire will defend her World Boxing Council interim super bantamweight world title defence on August 20 at the Harare International Conference Centre.
She will battle Munoz Zulina from Mexico.
This comes after local boxing board chief executive, Lawrence Zimbudzana, who was standing in for the Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister, Kirsty Coventry, made the announcement in Harare yesterday.
“It is an honour to address this gathering as we officially announce Kudakwashe Chiwandire WBC Super Bantamweight world title defence.
“The hosting of the WBC title defence is a significant milestone in the history of boxing in the country and the continent, as this is the first WBC (title fight), to be hosted in the country.
“I am reliably informed it is the third WBC title fight to be hosted on the continent.
“This event provides a platform for our fighters to fight the best in the world and on the continent.
“The WBC title defence presents the country with a unique opportunity to market Zimbabwe, as a destination of choice, in hosting mega boxing and combat sport events.
“To improve boxing performance in the country, we have to create opportunities for our boxers in the country and regional, continental and international fights are vital,” he added.
Chiwandire promised fireworks.
“I am promising my best. This will be the fight of my life. I will defend my title successfully.
“I will make my country proud.
“Preparations are ongoing, I am putting my all into it.
“Zimbabweans should expect nothing less, it’s a must-watch match,” said Chiwandire.
