“Sport has grown to be an industry the world over and is actually generating billions of dollars. It is therefore important that as community leaders we promote the growth of sport from the grassroots level and avert the problem of unemployment that we have in the country at the moment,” Cde Pasade said.
He said sport was also one way of preventing young people from engaging in criminal activities and other anti-social behaviour.
“This is my own way of contributing to the development of sport in our area and hopefully some of these youngsters will go on to make names for themselves in the top flight league judging by the performances they have exhibited here,” he said.
Gunners coach Partson Ndabambi was grateful for the practice match and said he had identified players he would want to look at further ahead of the coming season as they battle to regain their premier league status. “The match gave us an opportunity to scout for new players as we fight to return to the premier league.”
Gunners won the match 5-1.
