TALEN VISION head coach Kudzayi Mhandire says this year’s ZIFA Southern Region Division One campaign is part of a broader, long-term strategy aimed at building a competitive and sustainable football project.
While many teams are pushing for promotion, Mhandire insists that his side is prioritising development both on and off the pitch.
Speaking ahead of his team’s crucial fixture against Bulawayo City on Friday at White City Stadium, Mhandire said the club is using this season to give younger players vital experience and to test tactical systems that will benefit them in the long run.
“This season is all about development and learning. We are giving opportunities to young players, trying new combinations, and focusing on consistency. Our target is not just the short-term wins, but building a strong squad identity that will serve us well going into next year,” said Mhandire.
Talen Vision have also launched a number of grassroots initiatives aimed at strengthening their junior structures with veteran coach Lizwe Sweswe in charge of the developmental teams.
“A strong senior team starts with a strong junior system, and that’s where we are investing heavily. We want to produce talent that doesn’t just represent us locally, but can go on to represent the country at the highest level,” said Mhandire.
While Talen Vision focuses on long-term goals, Bulawayo Chiefs are wasting no time asserting their dominance this season. Chiefs made it four wins from four with a commanding 4-0 victory over Eagle Life at Luveve Stadium last Saturday.
Crispen Machisi led the charge with a brace, while Bukhosi Sibanda and Arthur Musiyiwa also found the back of the net.
The win took Chiefs to 12 points, maintaining their perfect record and keeping them top of the log standings. Impressively, they are yet to concede a goal this season. Casmyn, Bulawayo City, and Zebra Revolution follow closely behind, each on nine points. Hwange, who suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bulawayo City, sit fifth with seven points.
This weekend promises another exciting round of fixtures, with several teams looking to close the gap at the top. Today, all eyes will be on White City as Talen Vision face off against Bulawayo City in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Saturday features a full slate of matches.
Hwange host Megawatt at Chakona, while Luveve Stadium will host a double-header with Nkayi United playing Casmyn at 12pm and Bulawayo Warriors taking on Ajax Hotspurs at 3pm.
Other matches will see e Imbizo take on Victoria Falls City Herentals at Llewellin.
Blackrock will fight it against Jordan at Cinderella while Eagle Life do battle against Zebra Revolution at Raylton.
Bosso 90 will face Mainline back at White City.
The action continues on Sunday with table-toppers Bulawayo Chiefs facing NUST at Luveve Stadium. Chiefs will be looking to extend their lead, while NUST will hope to cause an upset and slow down the title favorites.
