IN the wake of match fixing allegations, Talen Vision president Khumbulani Nkomo has said they were not under any pressure to win the Zifa Southern Region Division One League hence they could not engage in clandestine means to gain promotion.
For Nkomo’s Mkhuphali Masuku-mentored Talen Vision winning the 2019 league title will actually be a bonus because their five-year plan does not have such a goal.
“The match fixing allegations actually also took us by surprise. But I must say we are not any under pressure to gain PSL promotion. Actually, we have turned down offers of possible partnerships with local PSL clubs. Our five-year strategic plan doesn’t entail that we should be playing in the PSL next year,” said Nkomo.
Talen Vision, an ambitious side that provides home to ex Highlanders duo of Obadiah Tarumbwa and Douglas Sibanda among other seasoned players, are still waiting to be summoned by Zifa over the alleged attempt to fix their last weekend’s league match against ZPC Hwange.
“To us this is not a case yet. We are still waiting to be summoned by Zifa on the match fixing allegation. We spend a lot of money in paying our player’s salaries and winning bonuses and how on earth would we stoop so low and try to bribe individuals with US$100. We still maintain that the allegations are unfounded,” he said.
It was reported that Talen Vision used former Railstars player, Mtewa Masiku, to entice ZPC Hwange players with US$100 for them to under-perform against Talen Vision last Saturday. The players are then said to have informed management and a set-up was allegedly arranged for Masiku.
The match between the two teams ended in a nil-all stalemate, which saw Talen Vision trail log leaders Bulawayo City by one point. Amakhosi had beaten CIWU 3-1 a day before at Luveve.
Talen Vision are yet to taste defeat so far while City have been beaten once.
