Talking Arts: Art should not just be for weekends

I am a sucker for developmental art in any arts genre. The likes of Raisedon Baya, Josh Nyapimbi, Nkululeko Dube and Memory Kumbota to mention a few of the Bulawayo-based seasoned artistes are doing the most in terms of theatre, film and dance.
They take our kids through the arts journey into the professional circuits. They are not the only ones.

There is a potential gold field at Center Pub every Tuesday.

The platform is called Random Poets and I must confess I went there just out of curiosity and I was in for a pleasant surprise.

There are some amazing underground poets I tell you.

Besides the pleasant surprises there has always been a cry for good art mid-week and I think we just found something to do on a Tuesday.

Art should not just be for weekends; I remember back in the day my Tuesdays were dedicated to Kelvin Ncube at Paparazzi Nightclub (closed shop in 2008).

He would bring down Tuesday with his amazing selection of music.

Red Café and Tin Cup are also contributing to this mid-week arts fiesta by hosting live bands on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

So why should you spend your Tuesday at Center Pub?

Well, one it’s a short programme, you are done by 8.30pm into time to catch your public transport home.

The second thing will be to watch pure passionate art. The performers at Random Poets are truly passionate.

It starts with the MC Bongelani Ncube who I believe is growing to be one of the best MCs our City has ever produced.

The theatre actor knows how to keep the audience entertained, sometimes even more than the performers themselves.

Amazing Thando, who was part of Lafarge poetry is part of this gathering.

It was nice to see, watch, listen to a poet by the name of Zeee. She dresses the part and has a delivery like no other.

Cool could be the right word to describe her. She can take you through the emotions and look good while at it.

This piece will not be complete if I do not talk about how Limah mixes her poetry with music or how Madpoet will talk about how poetry is his sanity.

Then of cause there is Sage, he will slam it like there is no tomorrow.

In the two weeks I have watched Sage he has grown on me to scary levels. Watch him, mix his poetry with music, amazing stuff.

The other people who were part of this beautiful venture are Deff, Joe, Mpumi on acoustic set, Langa on music , Stewie, Phelo, and Sibo.

The find of the year though will be acoustic musican Anotida who somehow reminds me of Oliver Tuku.

The boy is so comfortable playing guitar as he sings. I think he is going far.

Go and watch for yourself, we finally have mid-week entertainment at City Pub.

Until next week, be safe . . . @nkuenkala 0772214373
