ZPC Kariba coach, Godfrey Tamirepi, was happy with the point they gained against Herentals, in their Chibuku Super Cup Group One match, at the National Sports Stadium, yesterday.
Tamirepi’s men showed little urgency and were under pressure from the Students for the better part of the contest, but still took home a point.
The game had a few flashes of brilliance with Herentals forward, Tino Benza, causing anxious moments, in the opponents’ defence.
The Harare side’s first good chance came in the 21st minute but the effort was tipped over the bar by ZPC ’keeper, Tapiwa Chilenga.
Herentals also launched another raid, in the 37th minute, when Wilmore Chimbetu fired towards goal, but the ’keeper did well.
The introduction of Paul Charamba, in the 78th minute appeared to shift the flow of the game in favour of the Kariba side. The two sides are now on seven and three points respectively.
“We are still hopeful and the team has played well, especially after this long break,’’ said Tamirepi.
“The players are not that sharp enough, as yet, but they tried to come back into the game in the second half.
“I cannot say it’s over, especially after getting a point and we hope the other teams’ results will go in our favour.’’
His Herentals counterpart, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, said they will still fight for the sake of their dignity.
“We are out but there is still a lot to play for as we need to go out in a dignified way.
“There is a lot of improvement as we are dealing with new players, who have adjusted well, within a short space of time,” said Mutiwekuziva.
