Rising afro-pop musician Thamsanqa “Tammy” Moyo is reflecting on her upbringing in new single titled “Kwandinobva” scheduled for release this Friday.
The 21-year-old musician — who has been high-riding with several hits dating back from her teenage days — said the song chronicles her upbringing.
“Kwandinobva is a track about the home I grew up in and about embracing the pride I have about where I come from.
“Not only does it talk about the environment but the family I was surrounded by. I am a first child of six and was raised by both my parents and my maternal grandparents,” said Moyo.
The “Tekere” hit maker said her family was pivotal in hercareer.
“My family has been incredibly supportive of my dream and talent; despite not having much they have sacrificed and given their all for me to be where I am,” she said.
Moyo said the song encourages people to take pride in their backgrounds.
“It’s a song that encourages people to look at their backgrounds and draw strength and inspiration from the battles and hardships they face on a daily basis.
“Our people are resilient and hardworking too, often we don’t take time to appreciate how far we have come as a people, as Africans. Kwandinobva’ teaches us to embrace our skin and diverse stories,” she said.
The single was produced by DJ Tamuka and will feature in Tammy’s upcoming album.
To bring out the essence of the song in video, Moyo worked with a team of stylists BLVK consultants headed by Danayi Madondo as well as seasoned videographer Andy Cutta.
“They managed to piece together some diverse outfits that represent our African heritage,” Moyo said.
