Tandava back with a bang

TANDAVA returned to Borrowdale Park, after a lengthy break, to turn on the show and win the 1600m Pinnacle Plate on Wednesday.

Trained by Gokhan Terzi, Tandava had six-kilogrammes pull in weights he gave to in-form Coachella.

But, their partnership with pilot Rodgers Satombo gave them the win.

Satombo and Tandava started at a slow pace but stormed back to win the main race of the day.

Coachella, who had dominated several races, from 1200m to 1600m, was second.

The race also featured seasoned runners in Butchie Boy, Fareeq and Christofle.

With 300m to go, Coachella was leading but Tandava outpaced him to win.

Butchie Boy and Christofle took the other places.

Apprentice jockey Satombo was elated after the races.

“I had two wins today (Wednesday), but I had a big learning experience,’’ he said.

“I have spent hours training, learning to control my heart rate and how to deal with the pressure.

“I cannot say how I did it, it was not pretty, but I managed to get my stirrup and get racing.’’ There were seven races in the fourth race meeting since the sport resumed after the coronavirus lockdown.
