SEASONED kick-boxer Brighton Tangata is set to intensify his preparations for the World Championships when he competes in the Kick-boxing Night tournament this Saturday at Les Brown Pool.
The one-day event will see kick-boxers from across the country battling it out from the lightweight to the heavyweight division.
Zimbabwe qualified for the World Championships to be held in Turkey from November 28 to December 8 when Tangata and Terrence Munemo finished in the top three during an international tournament in Libreville, Gabon, in June.
The international tournament was used as a qualifier for the championships.
Tangata said he is using Saturday’s tournament to assess his preparations as he has been training since their qualification.
“I have to compete in this tournament to prepare for the World Championships.
“I will be competing in the middleweight division but it will depend on the kick-boxers that would have come for the tournament.
“At the moment, my preparations are going on well, I am doing as much as I can and the tournament will give me the chance to assess myself,” he said.
Tangata said he knows what to expect in Turkey hence the need to be adequately prepared for the event.
“The difference is that the people we will meet in Turkey are real professional fighters who concentrate on kick-boxing. It’s their lifestyle compared to us, we don’t have proper equipment and resources.”
