“We are proud to announce the complete coverage of Tanzania with fast broadband services,” TTCL chief sales and marketing officer Peter Ngota said in a statement to mark the end of rolling out the national ICT broadband backbone infrastructure across the country.
The 100 percent national broadband coverage will provide a boost to new digital capabilities. With the new high- speed satellite broadband service, homes and businesses have the availability of Internet connections of up to 15Mbps anywhere in the country.
“We know that fast reliable broadband is essential to develop our next generation of business leaders in the digital economy. No matter where they are TTCL provides broadband connectivity using all suitable technologies,” Ngota said.
The launch of these services is also expected to help Tanzanian entrepreneurs to play a part in the global digital economy.
“This new generation of digital entrepreneurs can develop their ideas and collaborate with others to build their online businesses from even the most remote locations of Tanzania,” said the statement.
Extensive broadband coverage in Tanzania has propelled the growth of digital services and their use.
According to Tanzania’s Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Makame Mbarawa, the cost of making calls had dropped by 57 percent while Internet services became 75 percent cheaper, leading to a rise in the number of Internet users from 3,4 million in 2008 to 9,6 million by the end of last year. – Wires.
