Tap into your emotions, aspiring businesswomen urged

specialist trainer will be hosting a seminar for women on “Challenging Limiting Beliefs” on March 3 in Harare.
Ms Chaurura is a well-known specialist trainer on the subject of “emotional intelligence”.
She currently mentors and trains a team of nearly 200 women across the United Kingdom.
Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups.
She believes that emotions are a “tool” endowed at birth and if used well can catapult one to success.
“Women tend to struggle in respect of emotions, we tend to be very emotional which can be a disabling factor in one’s career. But most people do not know that it can work both ways.
“Effective emotional engagement can serve as a motivating factor,” she said.
Ms Chaurura added that such training is also appropriate for men.
“Men also need EI training because they generally tend not to express their emotions.”
Some researches on EI and job performance have shown a positive relation between the two.
The four branches of EI typically include the perception of emotion, the ability reason using emotions, the ability to understand emotion and the ability to manage emotions.
Ms Chaurura said although women in the country were making their mark in commerce and politics, there is still greater scope for the general upliftment of womenfolk.
“In developing countries such as Zimbabwe, culture and especially the family set-up, is very inhibitive of women’s economic progress hence there is still a long way to go,” she said.
Born in Zimbabwe, Ms Chaurura worked for the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare as a nurse for seven years. She later relocated to the UK where she worked as a nurse in the National Health Service for five years. In addition to training, she is also currently a senior independent sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics in the UK.
