PREPARATIONS for this year’s Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo are at an advanced stage with afro-soul songstress Tariro NeGitare expected to perform at the festival for the second time in a row. Most acts have been confirmed for the fete which will be held from September 21 to 26 under the theme ‘My Intwasa, Your Intwasa, Our Intwasa’.
Now in its 11th edition, the festival will have 50 events including theatre, public speaking, music, workshops, arts and crafts which will be held at six venues.
Besides the opening night and theatre shows which have proved to be crowd favourites, an ‘Acoustic Night’ that will feature Tariro NeGitare, Prayersoul, Tendai “Tendex” Madzviti and Munyaradzi Nyamarebvu will be some of the highlights.
Following the successful hosting of the Intwasa Fashion show last year, another similar show will be held this year with a number of models expected to showcase the latest trends from local fashion designers.
The popular Live Theatre Project for school children will be held with O’Level set books Master Harold and the Boys and The Sun will rise again being acted out in plays. Importance of being Ernest and The Colour of Hope will be acted out for A’ Level students. Post performance discussions of the respective set books will be held after all the plays.
Festival director, Raisedon Baya, said the Intwasa programme would be released at the end of the week.
“Zimdancehall is one of the biggest genres in the country and we’ll have one of its stars as a main act at a show on the second last day of the festival. We’re still finalising one or two things with that artiste and we’ll give details about him in due course,” said Baya.
“Intwasa is a platform for showcasing the diversity of our creativity and our cultures. Since time immemorial, culture has been a powerful force to bring people together and the festival is a vehicle to connect and share those experiences. That’s why we chose the theme My Intwasa, Your Intwasa, Our Intwasa.”
