POLICE have formally charged Glenwood monster Tatenda Zhanje for having sex with a minor.
Zhanje (22) repeatedly raped and impregnated his niece, Yeukai Dandara, when she was 15-years-old.
Yeukai gave birth to twins last month before dying from complications she developed two weeks later.
She was buried at Dandara village in Murehwa on Wednesday.
Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, said they will conduct further investigations when Tatenda returns from the burial.
“Police arrested a Glenwood man for having sexual intercourse with a young person as defined in Section 70 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
“The accused person recorded a warned and cautioned statement and admitted to the offence.
“He was released to attend the funeral and will report back to Epworth Police Station for further investigations.
“Investigations done revealed that the now deceased was 15-years-old when she started cohabiting with the accused person who was 21 years old in April 2023.
“Sometime on an unknown date in April 2023, the now deceased ran away from her parents in Murehwa and went to Glenwood, Epworth, in Harare.”
She added:
“The now deceased started staying with the accused person as husband and wife.
“The now deceased and the complainant had consensual sex on several occasions until the now deceased fell pregnant.
“On January 10, the now deceased went to Sally Mugabe Hospital where she delivered twin babies through operation.
“She was discharged from hospital on January 13.
“On January 24, the now deceased developed some complications due to her operation and went back to Sally Mugabe Hospital where she was admitted.”
